.About Dr. Crawford...

Dr. Clinton Crawford is a professor at Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York (CUNY). He is a specialist in language communication and the arts. A graduate of Columbia University, Dr. Crawford is the author of Recasting Ancient Egypt in the African Context: Toward A Model Curriculum Using Art and Language, 1996 (Africa World Press), editor of Ebonics and Language Education of African Ancestry Students, 2001 (Sankofa World Publishers), and Instructions of John Henrik Clarke, (forthcoming).

Dr. Crawford views language and the arts as encompassing all communicative behaviors that helps the practitioner of language to construct and convey meaning that is culturally significant, shared, organized and dynamic. He is host and producer of the show, Sankofa Review on Channel 25 television, WNYE, NY, NJ & CT. A member of the Harlem Writers Guild, Dr. Crawford is also the director and founder/member of the John Henrik Clarke—C.L.R. James African World Research Institute with its Information Headquarters at Medgar Evers College, CUNY. In addition, he teaches the first course on the Life and Works of John Henrik Clarke at Medgar Evers College, CUNY, the History of African Art and Culture, Egypt Art and Culture, Introduction to World Art. and Great African Women. Annually, Dr. Crawford leads an annual Educational Tour to Egypt in the summer and visits other African nations during the winters on study tours to Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
